About Us

Introduction

GVM was founded in 1950, on a 1200- acre piece of land, on one of the harshest and most backward terrains. Acutely prone to droughts, heat and cold waves, epidemics and other travesties of nature, GVM has striven to alleviate the acute backwardness through various permanent and adhoc programmes of education, culture, livelihood, health and hygiene, vocations etc. Read more>>

Vision

The importance of ethics and values too cannot be disregarded; otherwise a student would become a rudderless ship. In order to meet the manifold changes and challenges in the emotional maladies confronting the society at large, the institutions of higher education must set a mind-frame to consciously ingrain the humanistic values into the students at every step. Inspiration

Gandhi Vidya Mandir (GVM), founded in 1950 as a sequel to its founder's dedication to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi whose assassination spurred a revolution in his heart and soul. I Adore Gandhi Vidya Mandir

  • I am deeply impressed by the missionary zeal of the Founder Swamiji and his highly devoted followers who had a strong resolve to change the face of backwardness of this stark desert, through education.

    Dr. Arne Fjortoft

    Secretary General, Worldview International, Norway

  • It was reassuring to see that there are people around, like you (Milap Dugar), who are keeping alive the legacy of Bapu Gandhi. Without visiting the place, I couldn’t have imagined of the kind of long sustained dedication, care and vision put together in the creation and development of the 1200 acre university campus, and that too braving such geographical, social and financial oddities and deprivations all round.

    Shri Oscar Fernandes

    Former MP

  • I am grateful that an opportunity to come here was provided by Shri Dugar (V.C.). All I can say is, anything that may be done at Government of India’s dispensation, we shall do, to further the cause which its founder had pioneered and taken up 50 years ago. As a very small token, I will request the UGC to give you a one time grant of Rs. 2 crores so that you can further raise your infrastructure.

    Shri Arjun Singh

    Former Union Minister, HRD

  • I would be glad when this institution shall develop into an ideal University, progressively serving the humanity at large through education and culture.

    Dr. Rajendra Prasad

    First President of India

  • Here is an example of what man can do even with frugal means. I know how the founder contributed his all and built such a mighty institution with pure resolve and mass support.

    Sh. Jyoti Basu

    Veteran Leader, Kolkata

  • Its excellence has been achieved with foresight, vision and dedicated mission. The leadership, methodology, infrastructure along with an enlightened faculty, all attributed to its success. I bow to its Founder for ushering in a new era of selfless, dedicated and life-long service to the underprivileged sections of the society.

    Sh. Subodh Kant Sahai

Former Union Minister of State (IC)

  • GVM’s outreach programmes in rural areas are quite innovative and beneficial to the socially, financially and geographically disadvantaged segments.

    Dr. Dayanand Dongaonkar

Former Secretary General, AIU, New Delhi

  • Gandhi Vidya Mandir of Sardarshahr is a poetry in desert, high quality prose amidst rural poverty, an essay in institutions, building on a region where otherwise want, deprivation and lack of resources prevail. I have no doubt that Mr. Milap Dugar (VC) has many years of service to the nation. His basic approach to life springs from that noble ethic – Tyaag – so remarkably lived by his revered father, a person I have had the privilege of knowing and being inspired by, over the years. When the roots and the trunk are strong and unique, it is not at all surprising that the branching, flowers and the tree itself are so beautiful and fit for emulation.
